FAMILY ADVENTURES

Family Adventures in Brattleboro

Outdoor Adventures

Summer Swimming

We have many local swimming holes not far from downtown along the West River. Check this site for a list of classic swim spots. The Memorial Park Pool is a great option, too.

Summer Canoeing and Kayaking

The Retreat Meadows, just out of town, is a great place to put in with your own boat. If you need a rental, xxx, a mile out of town can get you going on either the West River or the Connecticut right from their spot on the confluence of the rivers.

Winter Sledding

A t-bar Ski Hill, and an Ice Rink
Just two miles out of downtown, Memorial Park is home to a community sledding and ski hill, as well as an ice rink.

Kids Downtown

Looking for things to do with the kids?
Here’s just few of our local options:

The Retreat Petting Farm, just on the outskirt of Downtown
Featuring lots of space to run around and all of the typical farm animals, this is great place to learn about our local agriculture and stretch the legs. Carlos, the gigantic ox is a highlight!

KidsPLAYCe, on Elliot Street in the heart of downtown.
This is an indoor play-space with climbing structures and interactive toys, perfect for all weather.

Fire Arts Vermont is two miles from downtown. Live glassblowing, an open ceramic studio, and a gallery featuring the work of world-class artists Natalie Blake and Randi Solin. Kids are welcome to watch the glassblowing and tour the studios.

Beadniks, a brim-full bead store with a museum of ancient beads, craft items, and vintage-style toys. The shopkeepers are hands on helping kids and their parents make beautiful creations. Wouldn’t a handmade necklace or bracelet make a perfect souvenir.

Altiplano, an eclectic shop with a unique collection of kids toys, gifts and clothing.

Everyone’s Books, a huge selection of kids books, stickers, cards, and notebooks with a great kids reading nook.

Sam’s, two floors of sporting goods and games, shoes, clothing for every possible weather condition, and free bags of popcorn.

Twice Upon A Time, two floors of fun and funky vintage finds

Ready for a movie? Our recently restored art deco Latchis Theater has a stunning view of the night sky constellations on the ceiling and geometric patterns on the terrazzo floor. Seeing movie here is a treat!

Hungry kids? The Works has lots of kid-friendly food as well as a play area spot, Hazel has great pizza and ribs, and Elliot St. Fish & Chips as a kids menu for the smallest of eaters.

WOW Frozen Yogurt or Blueberry Haus would be a great way to round out a day in our town of Brattleboro!
